FAQ:
We are from TP Skate IG, a skating Interest Group in Temasek Polytechnic.
- What is the purpose of the Clinic and who is it for
The purpose of the clinic is mainly to promote the interest of rollerblading and to teach students how to Rollerblade. Interested participants with the liking of the sport can continue to skate with us by joining our interest group.
As mentioned, the clinic is for anyone, but preferably the beginners who have little or no prior experience of skating at all.
- What is the $10 fee for? Why is it so expensive?
The $10 covers the rental of the Rollerblades. The rental fee outside generally is about $5 an hour, but here, you spend $10 to skate for 3 hours. On top of that, we are giving out free T-shirts and SEAL points to those who joined the ClinicSports Club decided to subsidize this event for you! Which means, You don't actually have to pay! The catch is that the T-shirt is no longer available, but SEAL points are still likely to be awarded!
- What can I do after joining the clinic?
Congrats if you choose to join the clinic! Once over, some may consider to take up the sport and introduce it to their friends, or, well; some will choose to just go off after the clinic. There are some of you who will be hooked onto skating and if you wish to advance further, TP Skate IG welcomes you to join us! We are open for recruitment all year round. What matters most is that you are interested in the sport and that is all.
- If I were to sign up for the clinic and I have my own pair of skates, what do I do?
You can bring your own skates down for the clinic. It is up to you.
However, if you still want the T-shirt, you would still have to pay $10 as the rental and the T-shirt comes in a package.T-Shirts are no longer available. Sorry.
- Can I just go on that day and pay for the rental?
Unfortunately,
no. You have to sign up with us within this week (19 - 22 Jan) for you to participate. And please do it fast. We have limited slots for the clinic. It is recommended that you do so for easier management and administration settlement. Though payment is not an issue anymore, there are still factors like limited slots available. So please do secure a slot for yourself by signing up with us.
Updated, 20 Jan 2010: The Clinic is free for the first 100 people, so you don't have to pay.
- If I were to join the Skate IG, what are the training Dates and what's the commitment level?
If you do happen to join us, contact us for more information. Right now, I can say that we are training twice a week at street soccer court from 6 - 9pm. We don't have a strict attendance as this is not a CCA. Having said so, SEAL points are not given for attendance, but we are working hard get SEAL points from events and competitions. However, it is appreciated if a level of commitment is given to turn up regularly for training is best. Anyhow, you joined us because of the interest of the sport right?
- Cool shirt on the display! where do I get it?
Sorry, the Shirts on display currently are not available to the newcomers. The black T-shirt is for the regulars last year and the red one is Team Temasek T-shirt. What I can say is that if you join us and show commitment, a shirt is given to you. (Every year is a different design btw) .
- If I'm graduating this year, can I still join?
Yes! As said, as long as you are interested, please do join! Don't limit yourself by just training with us. You can skate outside after you graduate or alternatively, come back as a TP alumni and just skate with us :)
- I'm interested! but I got no money to buy skates/where do I buy skates?
This option has to be seriously considered. If you are buying for the sake of one-two time trial, please don't. Rollerblades are quite expensive, not to mention good ones. You can get them from any skate shop, eg. East coast park, Peninsula Shopping Centre. Alternatively we are working out to provide rentals to those who wants them and are joining the club. But it is recommended to get a pair of skates of your own if you are thinking of a long-term investment.
If there are anymore questions, feel free to contact us on the tagboard or drop Toshi or Gabriel an email or SMS (found in the profile page).
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE PAID FOR THE CLINIC, the $10.00 will be refunded on the day of the clinic. Second, the T-Shirts are NO longer available due to some administrative issues. Sorry for the inconvenience caused and hope to see you on that day :)Daryl
