Hi all! Prolly today is the fastest update I can do. I am covering a few points for an update.
Inter-tertiary Freestyle Challenge. As some of you know, there will be a freestyle competition in October. This event spans over the 4 Saturdays. A team of 16 skaters have been selected for this event. Congrats to them!
Team Slide/Slalom I'll check with the IC and committee members if they agree. Because of the freestyle challenge, we have to set up our competitive teams. Tentatively, the 16 selected skaters will fall into this category until further notice.
The team slots are limited to availability and are not permanent. If a skater does not perform up to expectation, he or she can be removed from the team. Likewise if a skater does well, then he/she will be promoted up.
Regulars a gentle note that you do not have a priority. This includes Toshi and myself as well to be fair. The skaters selected will represent TP for the next available and relevant competition.
Friday AGMThis concerns more for the committee members and regulars. Sports Club has invited Toshi and I to go for some AGM by them. Hence,
we WILL NOT be present for the training session.
JJ, Yu Heng and Jian Sheng will take charge for Friday. In fact, I got the hint that there might be dinner provided. If there is enough food we can get the skaters to be have their dinner :D
Venue & FlooringYes, if you are regular enough, you will know that this is number one problem of this year. With the street soccer court closing down like in less than 2 months or so,
we need EVERYONE'S input on suggesting a new training ground. I don't care if there is a need to rent the space or the need to travel. We need a ground first.
There is a thread on that in the forum and I need everyone's suggestions to be put in.
Skater's conductThis topic is not meant for anyone, but something I would like to share with you all based on my experiences in TP Ultimate (TPU). For those who know me well enough, I'm in TPU also but as a ghost member due to my commitments here.
They emphasizes a lot on sportsmanship and respect. One thing I learn from playing Ultimate Frisbee is that you have to respect yourself, your opponents and the field.
- Giving self-respect earns you a right to learn. If you keep demoralizing yourself, then you are limiting your chances of learning, because why? you think you can't do it!
- Respect opponents. Don't care if they are better or worse. Don't taunt, flaunt or even speak behind their back. While it is good to give comments, don't go overboard with pride.
- Respect the field. This will be a bit more conceptual. The ground is where you stand. It can help or hurt you. Don't abuse the grounds (in our case, the ground and the equipments) just because you are unhappy. The ground does not have anything to do with your agony or unhappiness.
I hope this gives you a better insight. As I said I don't target this topic to anyone, but is just an experience I want to share with you all.
Rentals
Yes I know there has been a lot of problems here and there and this caused a lot of inconveniences to the people renting skates. I would like to point out two things.
We've talked to our vendor and agreed that every Tuesday will have rentals by default. If there is rain, there will be wet-weather programs or if we fail to plan anything, an SMS will be sent to you or a blog post before 4pm if possible. Hence if there is no notifications, rentals are on as per normal.
For those who are renting today, you might have realized that we've left you alone most of the time; we intended you all to ask us for help instead of us approaching you. Do understand that the regular skaters too have their training and can't afford to just teach for 3 hours. Yes there will be coaches but they will be in rotation in shifts. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I'm sure they will be glad to help you actually.
Lastly, I hope skating has been fun for you all!
