2010 is coming to an end. Fast eh?
Just an update, there are currently 5 people in the blacklist. 2 are in there, 3 pending. I'll just say that there are regulars in the list. I've given verbal warning for some of you. So please buck up your commitment and effort in training before I officially strike off your name from the list.
Why so serious? To be honest, as said by Shen Loong, the discipline level has dropped by alot. We can have fun, ji siao, and pull off pranks on each other during training, is fine with us. What I meant by discipline is the self-discipline to learn and to put in that effort to train hard. If you have realised by now, opportunities like event participation, competitions and Performances are given to those who have been consistent with their training, nevermind the skill level. Yes we don't actually kick people off because they are lagging behind cos we see no need for it. 3 years in TP, 3 CCAs involved including skating allows me to know roughly what and how the other clubs/CCAs are doing. I have not included contacts and friends (I'm sure you all do too :D)who often tell me how 'great' their CCA is.
Don't understand what I mean? No offense to the other CCAs if you happen to see this; This was the feedback I got from some people.
TPDB: If you lag behind, they'll just leave you there. No one is gonna organize special training or personally coach you to improve to catch up. You are on your own there. Be there or get out. Their training intensity? 5-6 times a week
TPU: I'm in TPU and I would say that they came a long way, despite being only 1 year old. Their level of discipline and play is far different from any CCA. But, how much you want to get out from their training, is up to you. Sure, there have selection and stuff, but as long as you put in the effort and commitment, you'll be in the TP team in no time. Training Intensity? 2-3 times a week
TPDE: Our famous dance crew, but what's behind the scenes? cliques and more cliques. Partly due to their different dance style and all. Take a closer look at them next time. You don't see them hang out as how we are doing with Slide/Slalom/Recre
Cheerleading: Ask Natasha (and ignore her other irrelevant comments). How 'committed' and 'bonded' they are. Simple as that. What I know is that they are also in cliques...
WaterPolo: Some of you know that I was in waterpolo for 1 sem before I joined Skates. I left the team because I cannot commit to their 7-day-a-week training and the intensity.
To sum up? We're considered fortunate to be bonded well and often take the training sessions granted. Again, I'm not criticizing the other CCAs or show how good our club is. Every club/CCA has their own strengths and flaws. Just that I really want to firmly stand on the point that we are already very lucky in TP skate club and should stop taking the training and coaching sessions for granted.
The take home message? It is not easy for us to build a strong bond between skaters, however your discipline of skating. We made through 2 years with a lot of drama in our history. The alumnus and we, the current president and vice do not want to see the club crumble just because of small issues. I mean like you guys are here with us for close to a year, don't you feel the bond between us?
To be honest, before I stop skating for this period, I'm always looking forward to run off at 6pm from the attachment place just to reach TP to skate. Why? Not because of SNFC but I just want to spend the remaining hours of official training time here in TP skate club. I have even gone as far to forgo my placing in TPU team to make the commitment in TP Skate. I'm not bragging, but this is my dedication to the club. Another good example is Toshi, our current president, who took great pain in behind the scene to deal with SAA, SC, and Hvper just to get the benefits for the club. Yu Heng? He also committed in alot of effort to ensure the logistics and operations ran smoothly in events and even in our own training sessions. I mean everyone of us has put in the effort in some way or another. If I were to mention Gordon and Shen Loong, The post will never end. In the end, this is our dedication. Even those you all perceived slackers or inactive, did help out at some point or another.
I'll say this right now, the current committee only have another 5 months to the end of their service term. We are looking out for people who have potential and willing to run the club and bring it to greater heights. I'm also planning a leadership workshop. This is only open to selected few. Not everyone.
Next point, this goes to the inactive list of people. I'm wondering where are you guys now. I personally know some of you, if not a large number of you. I clearly remembered most of you said that you will come back to skate. A smaller number said they will stay as regulars. I held that as a promise on your side. So are you going to fulfill the promise? For those who were here as active skaters but not regulars, where's your commitment? I know school life can be an ass, but please; if you are still interested in skating, please don't waste the potential and your money.
As said earlier, lower down the competitive tension among yourselves. Seriously. Competitiveness brings you far, but interest and passion brings you further. Don't learn this the hard way. I made my fair share of mistake on this. Don't repeat what I did. No use looking down on someone or scorn off and ignore the people who are below you cos YOU also started from the rock bottom. Give them some time and help, where possible to guide them. Don't lose hope in others because when the time comes and you take the fall, you'll want others to stand by you and give that same sort of encouragement.
